  • Kumbukeni Mjuweni, Esq.

    Kumbukeni is the founder and chair of NYMSM. She is an Attorney practicing in New York City.

    During her spare time, Kumbukeni enjoys hiking on mountain trails, driving along New York's scenic routes, and learning from new cultures. She is passionate about mentoring and encouraging youth to thrive in their chosen career goals, and take up their role as our future leaders. She is a life-long learner who believes that education is the key to building a stronger, brighter future. She believes that each child deserves the support, encouragement and equal opportunity and access to achieve their full potential, and that “Educating our children is the key to developing a brighter, sustainable and stronger future that provides a truly equitable society.”

    Kumbukeni graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelors degree in American Politics, cum laude. Thereafter she obtained her Juris Doctorate from Widener University Delaware Law School. 

  • Katrina Tomer

    Katrina Tomer is the Program Coordinator for NYMSM. She also serves as a Senior Legal Services Assistant with the Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) at Queens Legal Services, where she assists individuals with physical or mental disabilities in retaining and continuing to receive Social Security disability benefits by filing appeals on denied claims, terminated benefits, and overpayments.

    Katrina previously worked for private firms focusing on Social Security Disability initial applications, reconsiderations, and appeals. Her passion for advocacy stems from her desire to help those who cannot advocate for themselves.

    She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Berkeley College in New York City.

  • Luthando Mjuweni

    Luthando Naledi Mjuweni is the President of the University Chapter of NYMSM. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanitarian Studies at Fordham University.

    Her background includes legal internships, volunteer advocacy with the New York Civil Liberties Union, and experience mentoring high school students through university programs. Luthando’s dedication has been recognized through honors, including first place in a regional Business Law competition, the AAUW Outstanding Student Award, and recognition for exceptional community service. She is passionate about creating opportunities through mentorship and advocacy, while applying a business-minded approach to building programs that empower others and foster community growth.
